1.TN panel

The full name of TN panel is Twisted Nematic panel. Due to its cheap price, it is mainly used in entry-level and mid-range liquid crystal displays. The characteristic of TN panel is that the deflection speed of liquid crystal molecules is fast, so it is easy to improve the response time. However, its color performance is not as good as IPS and VA panels. The TN panel is a soft screen, and a swipe with your hand will cause similar water ripples. Due to insufficient viewing angles, such panel displays are gradually withdrawing from the mainstream market. The advantages of TN panels are that the number of output gray levels is small, the deflection speed of liquid crystal molecules is fast, and the response time is easy to improve. At present, LCD products below 6ms on the market basically use TN panels. With the continuous improvement and upgrade of the TN panel, the latest TN panel display no longer sacrifices image quality due to high-speed response, and the image quality is close to the simplified version of the wide viewing angle panel display. There is also a big gap between the prices of TN panels and wide viewing angle panels. The disadvantage of TN panel is that as a native 6Bit panel, it can only display 64 colors of red/green/blue, and the actual color is only 262.144 at most. After dithering algorithm, it can reach 16.7M colors (8bit color), but after all, the color calculated by the IC circuit The accuracy and naturalness cannot be compared with the original, and the wide viewing angle panel has native 8bit color, so the transition effect is better. In addition, it is difficult to improve the contrast ratio of TN panels, and the problems directly exposed are thin colors and poor restoration ability.


2. IPS panel

The biggest feature of the PS panel is that its two poles are on the same plane, unlike other liquid crystal mode electrodes that are arranged three-dimensionally on the upper and lower sides. Since the electrodes are on the same plane, the liquid crystal molecules are always parallel to the screen no matter what state they are in, thereby reducing the aperture ratio and light transmittance, so IPS applications on LCD TVs require more backlights. The advantages of IPS panels are larger viewing angles, faster response times than VA panel displays, and more accurate color reproduction. Compared with other types of panels, the screen of the IPS panel is more "hard", and it is not easy to deform by water marks with a slight stroke of the hand, so it is also called a hard screen. The disadvantage of IPS panel is that the problem of light leakage is serious, the black purity is not enough, slightly worse than PVA, and it needs to rely on the compensation of optical film to achieve better black. In addition, because the transmittance is lower than that of TN screen displays, more lamps or better backlights are required, so the power consumption is also higher. The full name of IPS is In-Plane Switching (also called Super TFT), which is an upgraded version of liquid crystal displays. IPS gives us better color accuracy and wider viewing angles. IPS can fully reproduce color effects in a range of 178 degrees without compromise. This is also the reason why IPS monitors are now sought after by most manufacturers. IPS technology itself also has more improved versions, including Super-IPS (S-IPS), Advanced Super IPS (AS-IPS) and IPS-Pro. While not all IPS panels have the best results, in general IPS is said to outperform traditional LCD panels.


3.VA panel

VA panel is a type of panel widely used in high-end LCD products and belongs to wide viewing angle panel. Compared with the TN panel, the 8bit panel can provide 1.67M colors and a large viewing angle, which is the capital of this type of panel positioning high-end, but the price is also more expensive than the TN panel. The VA panel is a soft screen like the TN panel. Touch the panel with your finger, the VA panel appears plum blossom pattern, and the TN panel appears water ripples. The advantage of the VA panel is that the display using the VA panel has the advantages of large viewing angle, purer black performance, high contrast ratio, and accurate color reproduction. Its disadvantages are higher power consumption, slower response time, average panel uniformity, and slightly worse viewing angles than IPS. At present, there are many monitors using VA panels on the market, and the corresponding prices are relatively high, mainly for middle and high-end users.


4. LTPS panel

LTPS is Low Temperature Poly-silicon. The molecular structure of poly-silicon is arranged into a grain that is neat and directional, so the electron mobility is 200-300 times faster than that of disordered amorphous silicon. LTPS-TFT LCD has the advantages of high resolution, fast response, high brightness, and high aperture ratio. In addition, since the silicon crystals of LTPS-TFTLCD are arranged more neatly than a-Si, the electron mobility is relatively higher than that of a-Si, which makes the electron mobility more than 100 times higher. The peripheral driving circuit can be fabricated on the glass substrate at the same time. So as to achieve the purpose of system integration, saving space and driving IC cost. At the same time, because the driver IC circuit is directly fabricated on the panel, it can reduce the external points of components, increase reliability, simplify maintenance, shorten assembly process time, and reduce EMI characteristics, thereby reducing application system design time and expanding design freedom.

Low temperature polysilicon technology LTPS was originally a technology developed by Japanese and North American technology companies to reduce the power consumption of Note-PC displays and make Note-PCs look thinner and lighter. In the mid-1990s, the technology began to enter the experimental stage. A new generation of organic light-emitting panel OLEDs derived from LTPS also officially entered the practical stage in 1998. Its biggest advantages are ultra-thin, light weight, low power consumption, and can provide more vivid colors and clearer images.


At present, there are still many wide viewing angle monitors using IPS panels on the market, and they are also the mainstream on the market. TN panels are the most common and are used in general displays. They do not pursue perfect colors, are cheap, and have a high market share. IPS is the general term for LG panels.
